Catch up with sophomore Sarah Beacham, a Leadership Fellow spending Winter Term traveling in Chicago and Cleveland!
“As part of the Isabella Cannon Leadership Fellows program, the sophomore class takes a trip to learn about a particular topic. This year, my class travelled to Chicago and Cleveland to study community development in poor, underprivileged communities.
In this class, we are studying the benefits of co-operative companies and how these development
programs can help local neighborhoods. We visited many businesses including Company Shops Market in Burlington, Evergreen Laundry, Evergreens Greenhouse, the Jane Addams Hull House, and other companies of the Greater University Circle as part of the Cleveland Foundation.
In addition to our educational trips, we had plenty of time to explore these cities on our own. We went
to the Sky Deck of the Sears Tower, Ice Skating at Millennium Park, a Second City Comedy Show, and many delicious restaurants.”
“This trip was an amazing experience and a great way for our class to see how we can make a difference to improve local communities.” -Sarah Beacham
